The season of Advent is a joyful time of preparation for the coming of Jesus, our Savior. Among the many ways to prayerfully engage in this season is the tradition of the Advent Wreath. This year we gave our families the opportunity to make their own Advent wreath and receive materials to make this tradition a part of their family tradition.
At St. Dominic School each of our classrooms has an Advent wreath which helps deepen the spirit of preparation and anticipation in their classroom during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Some classes read a prayer each day, make sacrifices to add to the manger or follow an daily Advent calendar. The Advent wreaths are blessed at School Mass each year.
This year, we'll keep an Jesse tree in the front office hall to remember the stories from the Old Testament which point to the coming of the Messiah. Each day ornaments will be added to the tree to help us remember that the Jewish people waited for hundreds of years for the coming of Jesus.
