Hi, Welcome to my webpage. I'm Mrs. James. I have been teaching at St. Dominic School for four years. I teach sixth grade Literature, Language Arts and Science. I also Teach Science to 7th and 8th grade.
6th graders are currently reading short stories about persuasion, growing and changing. They are creating an advertisement for a pair of gym shoes in the computer lab. They are using Microsoft Word, Paint, and Clip Art. Language Arts 6th graders are beginning to develop writing skills about the personal narrative. They are practicing their skills by writing short parts of narratives. They are also strengthening their grammar skills working with nouns--singular, plurals, abstract, concrete, count and noncount. Science 6 6th graders are beginning to read about the Five Kingdoms of living organisms and invertebrates. They are learning about sponges, cnidarians, and mollusks. They are also learning the parts of a microscope and how to prepare a slide. In the computer lab they are researching how living organisms are classified. Science 7 7th graders are studying Cells. They are learning about what organisms need to survive. They are also learning the parts to the scientific method. They will help them with the Science Fair project. They are conducting experiments showing how living things can only come from other living things, and the special requirements of seed plants. In the computer lab they are developing their own "creature" that has all the characteristics of living organisms and writing a report. Science 8 8th graders are studying the physical landform structures of the Earth. They are learning about the types of stress, faulting, folding and deformation of the Earth's crust. They conducted an experiement on isostasy. Isostasy is the balancing of the forces of the crust and the mantle. In the computer lab they are going to begin researching Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
