Teacher Bio

Hi, I'm Mrs. Girdham.  My career with St. Dominic started with 5 years of part-time work.  In 2006 I was given the opportunity to teach full-time and serve as the 8th grade homeroom teacher.  I currently teach junior high students math, religion, and art.  Some of my favorite things are Jesus, my husband, and three children (all 3 are students at St. Dominic).  I also love art, photography, sewing, theater, music, long weekends and summer vacations.

What we are studying

• In Pre-Algebra we are reviewing order of operations and learning how to solve equations and inequalities. Soon we will brush up on our fraction, decimal, and percent conversions and operations. 
• In Math 7 we have learned the algebraic properties.  We have introduced exponents, mastered order of operations, and learned how to evaluate expressions.  We look forward to decimals and scientific notation in Chapter 2.
• In 6th Grade Religion we are creating our "Coat of Arms".  We will research and create shields that represent our Christian Identities. In October we will start our Saint projects in preparation for All Saints Day. And then we will use the computer lab to research and report on a "miracle".
• In 8th Grade Religion we are going to start researching Saints as we prepare to choose our confirmation names.  We've had scavenger hunts in our bibles.  And are going to start our journey toward confirmation.

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a sacrament of Initiation. It is a commitment for mature Christians that deepens their baptismal gifts. At confirmation, the Holy Spirit presents the candidates with seven gifts:

1. Wisdom
2. Understanding
3. Prudence
4. Fortitude
5. Knowledge
6. Piety
7. Fear of the Lord

We continue to prepare for confirmation. Remember that your sponsor forms must be turned in as well as your service hour clocks.

Important Dates

Please check back for important dates. 

• In October many of the nearby Catholic High Schools make recruiting visits to St. Dominic.
• In December/January high school will be administering entrance exams and math placement tests.
• March is Confirmation (date TBA)
• May means May Crowning and Graduation.
